DCHS welcomes first ever Writing Club

Author Mike Mullin inspired more than just the students when he visited Delphi only a few short weeks ago. He also inspired a few members of our staff. While sitting in on Mullin’s “Writing Funshop,” school literacy coach Sarah Tislow mentioned to Mrs. Tonsoni that they should have some sort of follow-up program, but Tonsoni had bigger ideas. She wanted to start a writing club.

“We have so many students who write independently of their school projects, whether it be blogging or fan fiction or posting on Tumblr.  What all of these writers are craving is an audience and some feedback,” Mrs. Tonsoni said.

Her vision for the club is that it would become a safe place for students with a love of writing to share their work, receive constructive criticism, and be supported by others who love to write, but Mrs. Tonsoni wants the club to be flexible.

“I want our writing club to fit the needs of the group.”

She hopes that the actions of the club will evolve with the ideas of those within it.

“The plan is to meet once a month during OT down in the LMC.  Members will bring samples of their writing to read aloud to the group,” Tonsoni said. “We’ll see where it goes from there.”

At the first meeting, club members will work together to decide the direction of the group and even vote on a name. Eleven people have already demonstrated interest in the group, but if you have any interest in joining please contact Mrs. Tonsoni or Ms. Lawton.
