DCHS hires new staff

Delphi Community High School has four new teachers and a new athletic director. Read below to get to know them a little better.  

 

Ms. Bunte, math curriculum director

1.  How long have you been teaching?

  I taught at Benton Central for nine years before I came to Delphi.  

 

2. What are some hobbies you enjoy?  

I am involved with a sorority at Purdue as an adviser. I play the flute with an orchestra and at church.  I am also involved with the Miss Indiana and Miss America Organization with Mrs. Clinkenbeard.  

 

3.When did you decide you wanted to become a teacher?

 I decided in 7th grade that I wanted to be a math teacher.  I only decided to pursue administration a few years ago.  

 

 

4. What is your favorite thing about teaching?  

The face a student makes when they finally understand a concept they were struggling with is a great reward.  

 

5. Where did you attend college?  

I started at Ball State University, but transferred home to finish at Purdue University.  Then I went back to Ball State for two Master’s degrees.

 

 Mr. Plank, ag teacher

1.  How long have you been teaching?

  I have been teaching for two weeks but I have been working with the FFA since May. I did my student teaching at that other county school.  

 

2. What are some hobbies you enjoy?  

Watching sports, playing golf, and going to livestock shows.  

 

3. When did you decide you wanted to become a teacher?

I decided to pursue a degree in education when I was a senior in high school, but it was during my sophomore year in college that I was positive I wanted to share my passion and knowledge of agriculture and become a teacher.  

 

4. What is your favorite thing about teaching?  

I enjoy the way students develop their understanding of new topics and the amount of change a student goes through in a year’s time. I also enjoy getting to know the students.  

 

5. Where did you attend college?  

Purdue University

 

Mr. Clark, science teacher

1.  How long have you been teaching?

  This is my first teaching position.  

 

2. What are some hobbies you enjoy?  

I enjoy being active, primarily playing soccer and cricket.  I got into science because I really enjoy understanding how things work.  We are starting a Science club at Delphi..  

 

3.When did you decide you wanted to become a teacher?

​I almost pursued a teaching degree straight out of high school.  I chose to focus on chemistry and physics instead.  A couple of years ago I finally decided it was time.  

 

4. What is your favorite thing about teaching?  

​That “now I get it” that students have when they​ finally understand something that they have been struggling with.  

 

5. Where did you attend college?  

​I did my undergraduate degrees in science at Griffith University in Australia.  I did my graduate degrees at Purdue University.

 

 

Ms. Williams, English teacher

1.  How long have you been teaching?

  I am currently in my second year of teaching.  

 

2. What are some hobbies you enjoy?   My favorite hobbies include playing sports, Pinterest-ing, singing, and vacationing.  

 

3.When did you decide you wanted to become a teacher?

  I decided I wanted to become a teacher my second year in college. I not only have a passion for teaching youth but also coaching basketball, so teaching was a good career for me to be able to do both.  

 

4. What is your favorite thing about

teaching?  

My favorite thing about teaching is witnessing “the light bulb come on” when a student finally gets it. I also love being able to be a positive role model in my students’ lives.

Mr. Sims, athletic director

Mr. Kevin Sims

 

1.How long have you been teaching?

  My first teaching job was in 1983 at Fountain Central HS.  I was a physical education/health instructor and boys’ varsity basketball coach.

 

2. What are some hobbies you enjoy?  

As for hobbies, I live on Lake Freeman and enjoy boating and golfing.

 

3.  When did you decide you wanted to become a teacher?

  I grew up on a farm and my parents insisted that their three sons get college degrees.  My two older brothers both became teachers and I followed the same career path.  

 

4. What is your favorite thing about teaching?  

Teaching involves watching young people grow into successful adults and there are very few professions that are similar to teaching.  

 

5. Where did you attend college?  

Undergraduate work  –  Saint Joseph’s College
