Spring sports preview

Boys’ Baseball:

Ranked 13th in the class 2A poll, the Oracle baseball team looks to bounce back from last year’s semi-final sectional loss to conference opponent, Central Catholic. Delphi, led by head coach Kerry Yoder, returns seven starters from a year ago and looks to capitalize this season with their senior-led team. Seniors Josh Gillam, Brent Hawn, and Ostin Clark all look to guide this year’s experienced Delphi team to a winning regular season and postseason success.

Girls’ Softball:

Under first year head coach Abbie Tolen, the Lady Oracles look for senior leadership out of returning players Tory Welk and Hannah Napier. Delphi also looks towards sophomore Rylee Lane for consistent infield play. The Lady Oracles wish to avenge their sectional championship loss from last season and make another run for the title this year.

Track:

The girls’ track team returns for another season following senior runners Haley Sales, Olivia Lucas, and Katlyn Burkhart. Coach Ty Schuler also looks for help from sophomore sprinter Emilee Gear and sophomore pole vaulter Bailey Gasser. On the boys’ side, the track team will try to rebuild after a solid class of seniors graduated a year ago. Junior Clint Rude will lead the way for the sprinters while sophomore Daniel Jakes will set the pace for many of the distance events. In the field events, the team returns senior pole vaulter Kolt Kinsler and junior thrower Garrett Clark.

Girls’ Tennis:

New head coach Gayle Conner will take over the reigns from longtime tennis coach, Joyce Lawton. Returning are numerous players from last season’s squad, including junior Shannon Leahy. Foreign exchange student Camille Landrieu will also be a key team member for the Oracles.

Boys’ Golf:

Second year head coach CJ Barngrover will have an experienced lineup on the links this season. Elliott Atkinson, an All-Hoosier Conference selection and Regional Qualifier from a year ago, leads a lineup that could feature five seniors in the varsity lineup as Adam Shanks, Jordan WIllis, Tyler Arion, and Kyle Appleton all return for the Oracles.
