Charity in the holiday season

Department stores are fully equipped with the Christmas getup, your favorite holiday tunes and TV shows are being aired, and your mailbox is awaiting the arrival of all those Christmas cards. It’s time to get excited for “the most wonderful time of the year!”

Although we’re all preparing for the busiest month of the year, we all need to take the time to think of those less fortunate than we. Many families cannot afford a big meal or presents for their children to open on Christmas morning. I believe this is the perfect time of the year to be thankful for what we have and the things we are able to do and then give back to others.

We all should be very proud of our community. There are multiple clubs involved with giving back just within our school community.

National Honor Society is collecting pop can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. The people who reside there are the families of patients who are admitted to Riley Hospital. The money gathered from the tabs will help to feed the families. Each OT teacher should have some sort of box or bag in their room where you may drop your pop tabs. Any little donation you can make will make a difference.

According to Elf, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. Interact, a new club at DCHS, is planning on doing just that by caroling. You can join them at St. Elizabeth on Wednesday.

Honan Hall is also accepting donations for gifts for less-fortunate children to open on Christmas morning. Bring in crafts, sports equipment, or a toy and anything else you think a child would enjoy!

Want to make a difference? Do something for the benefit of another person. There’s no better time than now.
