Stranger Things, one of the most watched shows of all time, ended horrifically.
So horrifically in fact, that the writers left so many plot-holes it turned the fan base into conspiracy theorists. Now, as of writing this it is 12:47, if there is a real secret finale, this is all a bunch of garbage then. Anyways, let me say WHY it’s terrible. 1: The plot holes. The plot holes are the main point of controversy among fans.
First, where were the Demobats/dogs/gorgons? In the final battle, (which is at the very beginning by the way) we see Nancy, Jonathan, Steve, Joyce, Dustin, Will, Lucas, and Mike all attacking the giant monster that we are led to believe is the Mind Flayer, taking physical form.
What we don’t see however are the monsters that made the show in the first place, the Demogorgons! I can understand why they wouldn’t want like 20 Demogorgons attacking as that would be a lot for just some regular people, but no Demobats or Demodogs which we have seen die quite easily. Now you could make the argument that the Mind Flayer’s body is made of all the demos that is turned into the fleshy goop like we see it do in season 3, but this is a whole dimension and presumably a whole planet and you’re telling me it took every last one?!
Second plot hole, why didn’t Will die with the mind flayer? It has been stated that if the hive mind feels pain so does Will, so if the mind flayer dies, pretty obviously painfully, why didn’t he also die? The Duffer brothers, who are the writers/creators of the show, have stated that it’s because they didn’t want to show him suffering, but they have never not shown that and still even if they didn’t show him suffer, he still would have died.
Thirdly, and the last major plot hole, why weren’t any of the characters arrested and/or killed. We see them raid a military base, shoot several soldiers, and not like “oh they shot them in the leg to disarm them,” no we watch Nancy blast 10 guys in the chest with an M16. Later after the Upside Down is destroyed they face no repercussions, just a time jump. They could have arrested them or even shot them and covered it up easily.
Here are some small plot-holes that didn’t make sense. Why is the Abyss a desert planet? It is stated the Mind Flayer likes it cold, yet the ground is cragged and the sky has a blazing sun. Also, why did the Demogorgons climb out into space? We see the Demogorgons climb into the wall of the Upside Down which on the other side is literally a void, seemingly space, so where are they going?
2: The pacing. The pacing was horrendous and felt rushed and slow at the same time.
The final battle wrapped up in an hour and the episode was 2! They kill off the main villains, who have been built up for 10 years, in 30 minutes. The last half of the episode is just an epilogue.
3: The ending. As this is the finale it should wrap up everything, right? Wrong.
Everybody gets a happily ever after, they can’t even kill off one main character as they elude that Eleven is still alive! The only character the writers can stomach to kill is Kali who shows up in one of the worst episodes of the show, (besides this episode), just to bring her back to kill her off. It has no emotional weight at all.
Finally, how they turned half the fan base into Joyce from season 1, that is to say, conspiracy theorists. What do I mean by that? Conformity Gate. By what the theory states the secret episode is supposed to come out at 8 pm tonight. There is actually quite a bit of evidence for it, so I’m here to say I am a firm believer it’s true, (if it is) but if it’s not, I don’t associate with those crazy people. Anyways, that was my review of Stranger Things’s finale, overall just this episode 4/10, for the entire series 8.5/10. Remember, Conformity Gate is real!
