The 2004 comedy/indie film Napoleon Dynamite became an instant cult classic following its release. Directed by Jared Hess and starring Jon Heder, Napoleon Dynamite is about a teenager going through high school. While it may sound quite simple, the main characters are a little… off. Napoleon being a kid who is obsessed with drawing, Pedro, who’s the new kid wanting to become class president, and Deb, an awkward girl who loves photography. The movie has no real main plot other than stuff happening. This movie is not for everyone as the comedy comes from the dry humor and cringe, a lot like the show, The Office. If you don’t enjoy that kind of humor then you will not like Napoleon Dynamite at all. If there was a main plot, I would say it would be getting a date to the dance/getting Pedro to be class president. There is also a side plot with Napoleon’s older brother Kip and his uncle Rico trying to make a time machine and get some money. This movie is a little odd and in some points it drags along. It’s very character oriented, which can mean sometimes it can feel dry. However it does have a very fun and nice ending which really makes the movie. With that in mind, I’d give it a 7.5/10.
