The rom-com, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, was released in 2003. Starring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson and directed by Donald Petrie. The story revolves around 2 characters, Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) and Benjamin Berry (Matthew McConaughey). Andie is a writer who wants to write about serious topics and believes she could get a big breakthrough with an article about how to lose a guy in 10 days, the common mistakes that women make when dating. Benjamin, however, works at a marketing company, where he is trying to get his boss to allow him to pitch the idea about jewelry. The antagonists work for the same place as Benjamin and want to do the pitch themselves, they also know that Andie is writing her article, so they make a deal with Benjamin that if he can take out a girl for 10 days, showing that he understands women enough to sell the pitch, he can do it. The catch is they pick the girl, so they pick Andie as they know she is trying to lose him. You can guess the rest, funny moments where Benjamin is really trying and Andie is doing the opposite. Eventually, in standard rom-com fashion, she truly does fall in love with him and same with her and they live happily ever after. My one problem with this movie is that it’s just a comedy for 80% of the movie and then they just shove the true romance at the very end with not much blending. Other than that I’d give the movie a 7/10.
