Django Unchained is the 2012, critically acclaimed, 7th Tarantino movie starring actors such as Leonardo Dicaprio, Samuel Jackson, Cristoph Waltz, and Jamie Foxx. Set in the south of 1858, only a couple of years before the Civil War. Django, played by Jamie Foxx, is a slave who is freed by Dr. Schultz, Cristoph Waltz. Schultz cuts Django a deal, helps him bounty hunt for a few months and then he’ll get him his freedom. Along the way Django tells him that his wife was taken away from him and Schultz wants to help him get her back. Unfortunately, she is the slave of Leonardo Dicaprio’s character, Calvin Candie. It’s one of Tarantino’s best, a lot like his other western, The Hateful Eight. Leonardo Dicaprio’s performance is truly astonishing on how he can make such an evil man so charming. Another stand out performance is Samuel Jackson’s character, Stephen, who is one of fiction’s most vile villains. Even though the movie is very serious and downright horrifying in its depictions of slavery and abuse, it does have time to have some humorous scenes. For instance, the scene with the KKK where they are arguing about how the eye holes were too small on their masks and may not sound like it but it’s quite funny, they even brought Jonah Hill in the scene, known for his comedic roles. Tarantino did an amazing job as did the cast, so for my rating I would give it a 10/10.
