Winter Homecoming

Basketball season is wrapping up and Homecoming is underway.  Students who are on to bigger and better things come back to their roots and cheer on their home team; while the students who are still chugging along participate in spirit week, leading up to the big game of Friday night.

All of the excitement started on Friday, the week prior, when the prince and princesses were announced and the theme days were released. The Monday excitement was derived from Jersey Day.  Students funneled in representing their favorite teams (or in my case, whatever jersey my dad had in his closet). Tuesday brought Hat Day, where all the middle-aged male teachers cheered, for the bald spot had a day of rest.  Twin Day was Wednesday, where bff’s wore matching clothes and no one could tell who was who.  Of course, the Pearson twins had a normal day at school. Thursday, was the day seniors could decipher freshman from sophomores, because each grade wore their own designated color, with freshman in black, sophomores in green, juniors in red, and seniors in blue.  Friday arrived in the usual Oracle Day; gold and black pin striped pants on the enthusiasts, and 2012 baseball semi-state champion t-shirts and jeans on the apathists.

As the week has led up to this moment, the pre-game line-up started with Chelsea Zaldivar and Hunter Corbin representing the freshman class. (Chelsea sported a classy red dress and a fantastic smile, while Hunter was sweaty and dressed in his uniform, as he had just finished playing a few minutes prior.)  The sophomore class was well represented by princess (on and off the court) Holly Cosgray and prince John Michael Beale. Juniors Emilee Gear and Dylan Hart summed it up for the underclassmen with a short laugh and looks that slayed.  The seniors were all in line for the throne.  Queen candidates were Gabbie Evans, Shannon Leahy, Kayla Eli, and Erika Carroll. King candidates were Blaine Walters, Garrett Clark, Kolby Kinzie, and Clint Rude. Each candidate was fit for royalty, but Erika Carroll and Blaine Walters left with the crown on a horse-drawn carriage.

As another homecoming is in the books, we must channel the excitement to get us through the next weeks. The coming week is sectionals week for girl’s basketball, so pep is vital.  Stay loud and proud Delphi fans.
