DCHS is hosting nine foreign exchange students this year.

This year, Delphi is lucky enough to be the host school of nine foreign exchange students. Though they come from many different cultures and backgrounds, they’ve all chosen to join us for the 2015 school year. Let’s make sure we’ve given them a warm welcome; but maybe you would like to get to know them first.

Who is your host family?

The Houston family (Makenna Houston).

What do you miss the most from home?

The food.

What do you like about America?

The people are so friendly.

What do you dislike about America?

The culture is really different.

Is America what you expected?

Yes, nothing surprised me that much.

What do you do for fun?

Singing, drawing, and sometimes jogging.

Are there any interesting facts about yourself that you’d like to share?

1. I’m very patient.

2. I travel a lot.

Pempek and Sate.

What is the biggest difference between your home and America?

The culture and the people are much more relaxed here.

What do you miss the most from home?

I miss everything.

What do you like about America?

The school is very organized and everything is well planned. I also like that everyone that wants to

has the opportunity to play sports.

What do you dislike about America?

Nothing so far.

Is America what you expected?

Yes, my brother was a foreign exchange student in Florida and he told me about it.

What do you do for fun?

I play tennis and basketball in my spare time. I also like listening to music and spending time with my friends.

Are there any interesting facts about yourself that you’d like to share?

I speak French.

What is your favorite American food?

I like the food at Hooters and Mitchells.

What is your favorite food from home?

All of them.

What is the biggest difference between your home and America?

The people here are more closed off than they are at home.

The Hartman family (Sue Hartman).

What do you miss the most from home?

I had more free time at home. It was less busy and there was less homework.

What do you like about America?

I like the sports and the school system. The people are pretty cool, too.

What do you dislike about America?

The humidity.

Is America what you expected?

Yeah, I knew a lot about it already. My brother was a foreign exchange student in Michigan.

What do you do for fun?

I like to play soccer, make music, hike, and travel. I’m also play guitar in a band back home.

Are there any interesting facts about yourself that you’d like to share?

1. I’ve been to the United States three times before.

3. I like rock music from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s.

I like too many to decide.

What is the biggest differences between your home and America?

At my school we have breaks during the day where we can go outside and a shorter school day.

Teenage pregnancy is also not as common back home and the change in the legal drinking age is

very different.

The rules and some of the laws are ridiculous.

The people are just different.

I play football and baseball. I also like skating and gaming.

No, not really.

I like the Sandwich Shop.

What is the biggest difference between your home and America?

The people are nicer and friendlier here. At home we don’t really talk to strangers.

I didn’t really have any expectations coming here.

I play volleyball.

The food portions are very different. They are much smaller at home.

The food and my friends.

The rules at the school are too strict and the food is too sweet.

I like to dance, sing, and play tennis; but at home I also play the drums and ride horses.

1. I’m tall and boring.

The dating is different here and teenagers have less rights.

My best friend, my grandma, and my dance class

The friendliness of the people.

The amount of homework

I expected America to be more liberal and for life to be busier.

What do you do for fun?

I like cheerleading, dancing, shopping, and watching movies.

Are there any interesting facts about yourself that you’d like to share?

1. I speak four languages (German, English, Spanish, and French) and I’m learning sign-language.

2. I’m a very accomplished dancer.

3. I’ve been to at least 13 different countries.

I expected more people to be fatter and for there to be more people in saggy pants who were

dressed like gangsters.

I didn’t expect to fit in with my host family as well as I have; and I didn’t expect the weather to

be quite like it is.

At home I like scouting and running cross country. I also enjoy travelling and playing basketball,

volleyball, and handball.

1. My name isn’t pronounced the same at home.

2. I’m a survivalist.
