The Oracles boys cross country team gets themselves into the right head space moments before running the sectional meet race.

Saturday, Oct. 8, the Oracle cross country team competed in their sectional race hosted by Harrison at the Tippecanoe Amphitheater. The boys and girls teams faced severe competition against powerhouse schools like West Lafayette, Harrison, McCutchen, Faith Christian, and Lafayette Jefferson. West Lafayette dominated the sectional, winning the team and individual competitions for both boys and girls, and Harrison took second place in both team competitions.

The boys team placed eleventh overall, with a score of 310. The best finish of the day for the boys was sophomore, Johnny Martinez (18:33) who placed 48th and fell just short of the regional cutoff. Other finishes included:

Jayce Johnson (19:11) – 55th

Owen Broadstreet (21:04) – 68th

Brenden Whiteman (21:15) – 69th

Jaden Turner (21:33) – 70th

Eric Achor (22:45) – 75th

Alex Hodges (22:45) – 76th

The girls team did not have enough runners to place in the team competition, but they did compete for individual advancement. Sophomore Sarah Perry placed 24th with a time of 21:36. She placed high enough to advance to regionals as one of the top ten runners from non-advancing teams. Other finishes from the girls included:

Cheyenne Zahn (24:12) – 48th

Taylor Martin (24:17) – 49th

Sarah will compete at the IHSAA regional competition at the Tippecanoe Amphitheater on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m. for a chance to advance to semi-state.
