In the last ten days, Hurricane Harvey has done devastating damage to Mexico and Texas, and Hurricane Irma has demolished the Caribbean Islands. Currently Irma is heading toward Florida with tropical storm Jose not far behind. As Irma approaches, people along the coast are preparing for a battle with mother nature.

With the arrival of Hurricane Irma, mandatory evacuations are being held in major areas effective Friday, Sept. 8 at 10:00am. Irma’s newest forecast shows that Miami is in line for a direct hit. Residents are being asked to not ignore evacuation notices and to get out as soon as possible. A state of emergency has also been declared for South Carolina ahead of Irma’s arrival.

Hurricane Harvey is one of the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history, alongside  hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, with an estimated total cost of $190 billion in damages. Harvey has left over 9,000 people homeless and has made major parts of Houston uninhabitable due to factors such as water damage, mold, and disease-ridden water.

Tropical Storm Jose has also recently been updated to a category 3 hurricane and is following Irma’s path. It could hit Barbuda directly, which was already heavily damaged by Irma.
