Our favorite couples: onscreen to IRL

On the heels of the explosive break-up between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, we decided to take a look back over the years of some of our favorite on- and off-screen couples. Who can forget the months that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson (dubbed “Robsten”) dominated the covers of magazines? Who can forget the countless segments on ET about the tumultuous relationship of Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus? Who else still has pictures of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s child on their Twitter feed? Let’s take a look back at some of our favorite motion picture couples turned real-life love affairs.

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens

“This could be the start of something new.” The first song of the iconic movie High School Musical led to more than just a relationship between Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens). (If you didn’t ship these two, you were an outcast at seven-years old.) Efron and Hudgens were our first favorite couple, and we were all heart-broken when they broke up in 2010 after five years.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart

A vampire, a clumsy girl, and Nowheresville, USA is the perfect concoction for a huge franchise built on the screaming of tween girls. The relationship between Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) has been ridiculed many times for the somewhat abusive tendencies; however, in 2008, no one was paying much attention to the unhealthy aspects of Twilight. The relationship between the two actors, Pattinson and Stewart, was prime media turf, due to the notable relationship between Bella and Edward. Ultimately, the relationship ended after one too many scandals in 2014.

Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus

These two starred in The Last Song, the movie based off of Nicholas Sparks’ book, and it’s obvious that sparks flew. Unfortunately, the sparks were continuously flickering in and out. Hemsworth and Cyrus have broken up a minimum of three times, including breaking off an engagement. As of right now, they are together. Fingers crossed that they last!

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone

It was truly love at first sight as Andrew Garfield literally swooped fellow co-star Emma Stone off of her feet in their first feature film together: The Amazing Spiderman. Keeping their quite obvious relationship as secret as possible for as long as possible, the first two years of their total four year relationship was composed of awkward interviews where he tried not to stare at her the entire time, and she tried not to laugh at his painfully stupid jokes. (Even the ones that obviously weren’t funny.) In other words, Garfield and Stone, termed “Stonefield,” were and continue to be the relationship goals of every teenage girl everywhere.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively

Ryan Reynolds has recently been catapulted into the spotlight with his role as Deadpool in the movie of the same name. Due to this, interviews of Reynolds are everywhere and the love and devotion he has for his wife, Blake Lively, is adorable and obvious. Reynolds and Lively met on the set of The Green Lantern, where Reynolds once again played the titular role and Lively played his love interest, Carol Ferris. The couple got married in 2012, had a daughter in 2014, and welcomed their second child in September of this year. (The gender and name of the baby have yet to be released. Stop keeping us in suspense!)

Did you enjoy this little stroll down memory lane? Are you currently crying from the feels? If so, you are not alone. Even though nearly every couple on this list has since parted ways, no one will ever forget the note-worthy love they shared. Honestly, will you ever really forget when Andrew Garfield called Emma Stone his “sun?”
