2016 brings popular movies to big screen

If ever you find yourself bored on a Friday night, fear not, for there is a solution. Who doesn’t love to go out with friends, buy an industrial size bucket of popcorn, put your feet up on the seats, and enjoy a movie? Here are some highly anticipated films that will be hitting theaters this year.

January:

Ride Along 2―Jan. 15

Ben heads to Miami with his soon-to-be-brother-in-law James to bring down a drug dealer who is supplying the dealers of Atlanta with product.

The Boy―Jan. 22

An American nanny is surprised to find that her new ward is a life-size doll instead of an eight-year old boy. After violating a list of rules, disturbing events make her believe that the doll is really alive.

The 5th Wave―Jan. 22

Four waves of increasingly deadly alien attacks destroy the Earth. Sixteen-year old Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her brother.

February:

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies―Feb. 5

Jane Austen’s classic tale of tangled relationships in 19th century England is brought once more to the big screen. Add in zombies and fighting to the death, and it might be deemed more than a chick flick.

Deadpool―Feb. 12

Given the advantage of accelerated healing powers and an extreme sense of humor, Wade Wilson adopts the alter ego Deadpool and hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

March:

Zootopia―Mar. 4

A rookie rabbit cop, the first rabbit to join the police force and eager to prove herself, teams up with a fugitive fox in order to uncover a conspiracy.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant―Mar. 18

After finding out that there is a world outside of the walls enclosing Chicago, Tris and Four escape behind the wall to try and find a peaceful solution for their disturbed city.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice―Mar. 25

Mankind faces a new threat as Batman embarks on a personal vendetta against Superman. Whose side will you choose when this blockbuster hits the theaters?

April:

The Jungle Book―Apr. 15

This animated Disney classic is returning to the big screen as a live-action movie. Be prepared for breath-taking scenery and Mowgli’s journey of self-discovery all over again.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War―Apr. 22

After Freya resurrects her sister, Ravenna, the two evil queens prepare to conquer the land. Eric the Huntsman and his love, Sara, set out to stop them.

May:

Captain America: Civil War―May 6

Fans of Marvel beware. This movie is about a feud between Captain America and Iron Man which leaves the Avengers in turmoil.

Angry Birds―May 20

Based off of the famous game, Angry Birds is about a group of birds who investigate the arrival of pigs on their island.

Alice Through the Looking Glass―May 27

With an all-star cast, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Wonderland and travels back in time in order to save the Mad Hatter.

June:

The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist―June 10

Lorraine and Ed Warren travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children whose home is plagued by evil spirits.

Finding Dory―June 17

After thirteen years of waiting, the sequel has finally arrived. Dory, with the help of Nemo and Marlin, sets off on a quest to find her mother and father.

July:

The Legend of Tarzan―July 1

Years after he left Africa, Tarzan returns to the Congo to be a trade emissary, not knowing that he is actually a pawn in a Belgian captain’s dangerous plot.

Ghostbusters―July 15

There’s something strange in the neighborhood. A reboot of Ghostbusters, starring four women, instead of men, who battle troublemaking ghosts.

Ice Age: Collision Course―July 22

In this fifth installment, Scrat, simply trying to catch his acorn, finds himself in  outer space and accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that threaten the planet.

August:

Suicide Squad―Aug. 5

Suicide Squad will be the third film in the DC Extended Universe after Batman v. Superman. The film is about a team of villains working for the government in exchange for leniency on their crimes.

Pete’s Dragon―Aug. 12

A young orphan looks for a hideaway from his abusive adoptive parents with the help of a pet dragon and a couple who lives in a lighthouse.

September:

Storks―Sep. 23

Junior, the company’s top stork, accidentally turns the Baby Making Machine on which produces an unauthorized, adorable baby girl. Desperate to deliver the “bundle of trouble” before he loses his promotion, Junior and his friend, Tulip, race to make their first-ever baby drop.

Bridget Jones’ Baby―Sep. 16

Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth reprise their roles, and Patrick Dempsey joins the cast. In this next chapter of the Bridget Jones movies, the heroine, Bridget, finds herself expecting a baby.

October:

The Girl on the Train―Oct. 7

Rachel, a woman saddened by her recent divorce, spends her daily train rides fantasizing about a seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes, until she sees something shocking happen there and is pulled into the mystery that unfolds.

Savage High―Oct. 28

A high school is rocked by a chain of terrible murders which is tied to an evil witch who previously owned the property.

November:

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them―Nov. 18

Fans of Harry Potter will have a chance to relive the glory days. Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a magizoologist, stops in New York to find and document magical creatures.

Moana―Nov. 23

Disney’s newest princess, Moana, teams up with demi-god Maui to travel the enormous ocean on an action-packed adventure where they encounter sea creatures, underworlds, and ancient folklore.

December:

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story―Dec. 16

Taking place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, Rogue One will explore the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children―Dec. 25

Tim Burton brings to life this creepily fantastic book about a boy who learns that the former occupants of an orphanage might still be alive. Bonus: it was a BOB book!
