One day trips for Fall Break

What do you have planned for Fall Break? Are you lucky enough to take a trip down to Florida or Myrtle Beach? Will you hang out with friends at the mall, or are you just going to lay on your couch and watch Netflix?

Are these the plans that you envisioned for our first ever full week of Fall Break? Do you want to do something different and more entertaining? Take a trip down to Indianapolis where there are all sorts of fun things to do. Here are some ideas:

Indianapolis Museum of Art: For no charge, you can go to downtown Indianapolis and visit the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Walk around to see all of the different exhibitions and check out the outdoor music and dance performances in the IMA gardens and grounds.

Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre: If you’re the live theatre type, Beef and Boards is a great place to go. Fiddler on the Roof is playing throughout the week at 1:00pm and 8:00pm; come two hours early to eat from the buffet provided. Sleeping Beauty is playing on Saturday at 10:00am and 1:00pm, and each performance is an hour long.

Holliday Park: If you’ve read The Fault in Our Stars, then you will have heard of this park. It’s an amazing park with 3.5 miles of trails, a great playground, and a nature center where you can learn all about the nature there. (You might even see John Green there!)

Theatre on the Square: Located at 627 Massachusetts Avenue in the arts and theatre district, the Theatre on the Square is a live theatre known for premiere plays that focus on outrageous comedies and new productions. The week of Fall Break, the play Lightning and Jellyfish will be performed at 8:00pm Monday through Saturday and 5:00pm at Sunday.

Indianapolis Zoo: Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Go to the Indianapolis Zoo if you want to see some animals. The Indianapolis Zoo “dares you to touch a shark or plunge even deeper into the animal world with a one-of-a-kind Dolphin pavilion.” The zoo is open from 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Thursday, and 9:00am to 5:00pm Friday through Sunday.

Fastimes Indoor Karting: Want to be like Mario Andretti or Sarah Fisher? Fastimes Indoor Karting invites you to experience Indy’s thrill of real racing on their bi-level track with speeds up to 40 mph. After karting, stay for some pizza, hamburgers, and buffalo wings.

Don’t want to go to Indianapolis? Instead, endure the two and a half hour drive up to Chicago to have some fun. There are so many different activities to do up there that it might seem overwhelming. Here are a few things that you must do:

 

Navy Pier: Measuring in at 3,300 feet, the Navy Pier is a great place to go with friends and family. Ride the ferris wheel, enjoy the food and entertainment, and, if you’re brave enough, go into the Chicago’s only floating haunted house for the fright of your life! If the zombies haven’t scared you away, stay for the fireworks at 9:30pm.

Millennium Park: This place is known for its beautiful architecture, sculptures, and landscape designs. If you’re interested in any of those fields, come here to see the work and take a tour. You can even rent a bike to ride, or play in the fountain that so many people love. Concerts and family activities also take place here.

Shedd Aquarium: Want to see Beluga whales, sting rays, and octopi? Shedd’s Aquarium has all of those and more for a great learning experience. Over 32,000 animals, from the sea, river and the Great Lakes, have found a home at Shedd’s Aquarium. Open weekdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm and 9:00am to 6:00pm on weekends.

The Museum of Science and Industry: Museums are always fun, but what about an interactive museum full of interesting exhibits? At the Museum of Science and Industry they show everything from genetics to the art of the bicycle. Are you a fan of Disney? The museum has a feature of the treasures of the Walt Disney company. There are lots of exhibits for a variety of different people.The museum is open from 9:30am to 4:00pm and will keep you entertained the entire time.
