Little Theatre: Back and better than ever
On Nov. 17, 2014, the newly renovated Little Theatre opened to the student body. The Oracle-themed auditorium has been here since the school was built forty-four years ago and the administration decided it was time to rehabilitate. Mr. Striebeck, the administrator overseeing the project, stated that the administration and the school board decided it was time to remodel based on the age of the seats, the wiring, the technology, and most of the sound equipment. Evidently, the speakers actually blew out before we finished the school year last spring.
The school board was very cooperative, and realized the importance of renovating the Little Theatre. The renovations that took place are extensive. “The seats, carpet, paint, sound, and lights in the theater, and all dressing rooms and storage facilities, have been remodeled,” said Mr. Striebeck
. A team of students and staff, combined with the management group and their designers, decided what would be remodeled or replaced in the theater. According to Mr. Striebeck, the wants and needs were balanced with the budget they had to work with. The total cost of the theater was $659,000 and it was paid for through a bond.
The theater was supposed to be reopened earlier this fall, but there were some areas to remediate due to a leaky roof which had to be repaired before they could put in the new carpet and seats. Of course, now that the theater is back and better than ever, the no food and drink policy is still intact and will be enforced.
Mr. Striebeck said, “I can’t wait to show off the theatre to the students and community. They did a wonderful job with all facets of the project.”
