Hacksaw Ridge Review
Hacksaw Ridge came out on Nov. 2, and reviewers have been very pleased with the production. Scoring an 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 3.5/4 from Rolling Stone, this movie seems to be an absolute thriller. The movie tells the story of Desmond Doss, a soldier in WWII, and how he volunteered to fight for the United States. When joining the military he made a promise to himself that he would not kill another man, but instead save lives. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan trying to capture Hacksaw Ridge. In his service, just at Hacksaw Ridge, he saved an astonishing 75 lives without ever firing a gun.
In this movie Desmond Doss is played by Andrew Garfield who also stars in the movie The Amazing Spider Man. Desmond finds his lovely wife at the hospital who is played by Teresa Palmer. Other stars in this theatrical film are Vince Vaughn, Luke Bracey, Sam Worthington, and Hugo Weaving. They came together under film director Mel Gibson in such a lovely way that living people who actually fought alongside Doss find this movie to be very accurate all throughout.
This movie is based off of a completely true story and many of the men still live today. Desmond Doss passed away in March of 2006. Director Mel Gibson felt it was a necessity to get his story of heroism out to the public. Mel Gibson, in his most recent film director’s role since Apocalypto in 2006, did a spectacular job recreating the story of a true American hero.
