Donald Trump’s inaugural speech

On Jan. 20, Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States. During his campaign, Donald Trump made many promises to his supporters, claiming he would build a wall to “keep out” illegal immigrants entering from Mexico, temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States, and fully repeal the Affordable Care Act.

In his speech, Donald Trump tried to appeal to the “everyday” man. He commented, “America will start winning again, winning like never before. We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders.” Donald Trump was speaking of illegal immigration, referencing back to his proposed wall. He also talked about a “transfer of power from the government back to the people.”

In his speech, Donald Trump continuously referred to giving America back to the people, but it is safe to assume he meant white people in America.

“[The politicians’] victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation’s Capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.” This is another snippet from Trump’s inauguration speech, which comments on the growing divide in classes. However, Trump seems to have forgotten that he wants to cut the Affordable Care Act which provides health insurance to 20 million families.

Donald Trump’s inauguration speech was a message for the “everyday” man, but it seems to have ostracized quite a few large groups of Americans, including women, immigrants, and people of color.
