On January 17th wrestlers, Katie Emerson and Taylor Martin, competed in the first ever all girls state competition in Indiana. Emerson, with an average placement of second this season, is a four year member of the wrestling team and fell in round one of the meet to a 2-time state championship winner. Martin started the season out as a manager for the team, but even with her joining late she made her way to state. In the past the wrestling team was co-ed, meaning the boys and girls would compete against each other. Both Emerson and Martin saw improvement in motivation and confidence from having an all-girl team. Whilst both girls are both seniors, which sadly means they don’t have anymore high school meets, they are leaving a legacy for not only the younger girls but the whole wrestling team as well. They both showed resilience through the last couple of years and were great leaders for the team.
