Endwell, New York wins 2016 Little League World Series

South Williamsport, Pennsylvania: a town where little league baseball is known all too well. Every summer, thousands of fans gather to watch sixteen teams battle it out to be crowned the Little League World Series Champion. Americans would be proud to know that this year the trophy found a new home in one of our very own states, New York.

Endwell, New York is a small town that consists of around 11,000 people. It is not a known destination by many. However, thanks to a baseball team full of 12 years olds, Endwell may have just found its place on the map.

The little league group from Endwell was not only successful in winning the 2016 Little League World Series, their final victory over South Korea in the championship game at Williamsport capped off a perfect 24-0 season. As for the tournament, the Mid-Atlantic team never missed a beat. Endwell started off with a 7-2 victory over Warwick, Rhode Island and a 3-1 win over Tennessee. After Tennessee, the little leaguers from New York squeezed out a 13-10 advantage over the kids from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Finally, after overcoming the team from Tennessee yet again to advance to the championship game, the sluggers from Endwell were ready to achieve greatness.

The final game against South Korea was a nail-biter to say the least for New York fans. Yet, would it be a true championship game without a little drama? The game consisted of a defensive battle in which Endwell had a robbed homerun by James Fellows and a fantastic outing from Ryan Harlost on the mound.Yet, with the game tied at zero for the first three innings, tension began to rise in Howard J. Lamade Stadium. However, the two-run fourth inning for Endwell proved to be too much for South Korea. The Mid-Atlantic team went on to capture a 2-1 victory and become the first American team to win the Little League World Series since 2011.
