Movie Review for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been a fan favorite for many years. Since 1987, we’ve seen the four brothers in a number of different ways. And now, thanks to producer Seth Rogan, we get to see the story in a whole new light. For starters, the animation style is completely different than what we, as viewers, are used to seeing. Similar to that of the Spider-Verse movies, the newer type of CGI animation finding its way into newer movies, getting rid of the more “Disney look”. This adds to the new spin of the pizza-loving heroes. Even though the movie was made entirely on the computer, the style is to replicate the clay animation seen in older animated movies.  Another thing to add is the difference in the overall character of the teens. Usually, we see them with a sort of 80’s surfer vibe, which, admittedly, is perfectly fine for characters that originated during the 80’s. However, that doesn’t really resonate with the younger audience of turtle lovers. So, instead of that, we see a completely different type of archetype for these ninjas, seeing more modern teenage personalities. The voice acting is also something newer to this movie, as it’s the first time that the turtles are being voiced by actual teenagers. This allows the movie to have a more organic feel, making it easier to catch the younger audience’s attention. Not only that, but the cast also includes famous names such as Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Post Malone, John Cena, and Paul Rudd to voice the characters. Speaking of characters, this is probably the most variety that we have had with them in only one movie. There are several mutants, all with their own unique look and personalities. Altogether, the newer version of the ninja turtles has brought a new light to old stories. It allows newer audiences to stay with the movie. However, it also gives the older audiences a new spin on the nostalgic stories. I would personally rate this movie a 9/10, and highly recommend anyone and everyone to go watch it.
