Senior Spotlight: Caydence McClain

With the Delphi soccer season coming to an end, the team has taken the time to honor their  seniors. This fall has been filled with wins, losses, and the occasional tie.  The girls soccer team has had their share of ups and downs; however, senior Caydence McClain has continued to have a great year. During a portion of this season, Caydence was ranked third for 2A schools in Indiana along with being fifteenth in the nation overall for goalies.  This ranking is based off of the amount of saves made by a goalie.  She is a great example of how hard work and dedication pays off.

McClain is now ranked twenty-sixth in the state and forty-second in the nation. Caydence, however, is not upset with the drop in ranking.  “To drop in ranking is good for the team and it means we have played a more offensive game than defensive,” she said.  McClain is a four year member of the soccer team.  During this season, she has played both goalie and sweeper.  She is committed to the game.  “One of my characteristics is I’m aggressive on the field and I’m not afraid to sacrifice for my team.”   Her dedication to soccer can be seen on and off of the field. “Till the last time you step off that field, you should always give all you’ve got and then some more” is her goal for each game.

Caydence has earned the appreciation of her teammates. “I have gained a lot of respect for Caydence on and off the field,”  said junior Lacie Tomson. “Every time she made an amazing save, all I would say was TGFC (Thank God for Caydence), said sophomore Ariel Wolfe.   “ We could not have made it through this season without Caydence,” stated senior Christina McCarty.

Caydence is the daughter of Brody and Tammy McClain.  She participates in soccer, tennis, and student council, along with many other activities.  She started playing soccer when she was around the age of seven and has continued to play for the past eleven years.  Her future plans are to attend Purdue University next fall, but she is undecided on a major.  Being a senior is emotional for Caydence. “ Soccer is my life and it’s hard to believe it’s coming to an end.”  “Playing the last game with Caydence was bittersweet. She was a great captain and friend of mine,” said Emily Jakes.
