Delphi’s Cutest Couples
Cheese ball cards, heart-shaped candies, and an overabundance of rose bouquets have been sighted all over the nation once again in the light of the upcoming holiday. Valentine’s day―in some it evokes excitement and in others it evokes vomit. While Valentine’s Day isn’t for everyone, some innocent souls have been shot by Cupid’s arrow, and we here at Parnassus have discovered nine of Delphi’s most adorable pairs.
Our first couple was spotted in the freshman locker bay: Kori Knox and Zach Townsend. These two started dating about four months back after being friends through school for the longest time. Kori loves that Zach really cares about her. Zach appreciates that Kori is always there to support him. They love to go get ice cream after basketball games together.
This next duo met during OT in their freshman year, but began dating only two months ago. Korynn Kinnaird and Levi Johnson are our sophomore pick. It all started when Korynn fixed Levi’s broken heart and they’ve been together ever since. Levi says, “I like her smile and her personality is beautiful just like her.” He also thinks it’s funny when she has to take off her shoes in their pictures together because she’s so tall and he’s pretty short. Korynn appreciates the fact that Levi is always trying to make her smile. She’s also a fan of his “cute dimples.” It’s a given that you can find them watching movies on a rainy day.
Hollyota is the junior class’s IT pair. While they are Delphi’s “cutest couple that never was,” they are still as the title says: the cutest, duh. Holly Cosgray and Dacota Shockley met back in the 7th grade when they became office aides together and had every single class together. It was inevitable. Their favorite besties date was on vacation in Panama City Beach. Holly roasted Dacota in go-kart racing. Dacota admits that he loves Holly’s snort, blue eyes, and her personality. When we asked Holly her favorite thing about Dacota, she said, “I don’t know, he drives me redneck crazy.”
Our senior choice, better known as the Corporation Power Couple, Emilee Gear and Dalton Briles, have no clue where it all began, but we think they’re together now . . . right? Their best guess to where it first started was back in football season. Emilee kicked her best friend off to the side so she could stand next to Dalt (as she calls him). Em claims that Dalt is a “good listener” but we all know he’s not really listening. Dalton’s favorite date was the time they went to see La La Land because Emilee let him do a donut in the parking lot. Emilee says, “I like to support him by holding his head on a stick at basketball games.” The couple enjoys eating chicken “nugs”, watching Netflix, and listening to Imma Be. Even though Em sucks at giving butterfly kisses, Dalton still loves her all the same.
Sometimes couples reach across grades, but that doesn’t make our next pair any less of a perfect match. Seth Brown, junior, and Amanda Belange, senior, are our longest-standing couple. They started dating way back in March 2015 when Seth captured Amanda’s eye with his cool band shirts nonetheless. The two love to just chill out and watch Family Guy while munching on Taco Bell. She admits it to basically living at Seth’s house her justification being his record collection. Seth and Amanda are a perfect balance: while she appreciates his intellectual mind, he enjoys her creativity. Their favorite date in the near two years they’ve been together is when they skipped out on Homecoming. “We still got dressed up, but we went to the movies and hung out around WalMart and took silly pictures.”
We don’t discount the teachers when it comes to naming Delphi’s Cutest Couples. This year we crown the newlyweds Mr. & Mrs. Mroczkiewicz. It’s fitting that these two take the cake since they strive to be just like the iconic power couple Brangelina (Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie) of Carroll County (minus the divorce). “Hopefully we’ll rise to fire power couple status,” Mr. M says. These two lovebirds have been together since 2012. They met at Purdue’s cottages after becoming neighbors. They both say that their favorite date was going to Savannah, Georgia for their honeymoon although Mrs. M vomited in Mr. M’s car. That’s one way to break into the newlywed shoes. After four years together, they have grown to appreciate a lot about each other. “I appreciate how passionate Jacob is about the things he does. Once he sets his heart toward something, he’ll do everything he must do to achieve his goal,” Mrs. M says. “I appreciate how strong, independent, and self-reliant Morgan is. She is easily the toughest person I know, and she is unwaveringly dedicated to our relationship.” While they stand to be the oldest couple on our list, they still act like teengers in love. When asked what they’re favorite thing to do together is, they stated: “EAT. And watch Netflix.”
Out of all of our couples, we don’t know of anyone who is better paired up than our next pair. They’ve stuck with each other through thick and thin. We don’t ever see this couple parting. It’s Brian Cunningham and his beard. They met way back in the seventh grade (young love blossoms strong). Brian tells us that he can’t pick just one day that is the best because he loves every day spent with his furry friend. Beard is also a great cuddler. “He always keeps me warm,” Brian says. Out of all the things Brian and his beard do together, they can agree that there is one thing they love to do together: shower.
Luika: the couple we all ship until the death bed. Erika Ross and Luis Nieves are the cutest couple that denies everyone’s happiness by not being together. Even though they won’t ever date one another, they have already named their children (Luis III and Blaire) . . . hmm interesting. We all know they’ll end up together within the next 25 years. Luis, better get your wallet ready.
This year, we added another segment dedicated to those lonely pigeons who hang out with the love birds. This year’s title goes to Katie Gear. She is the dedicated third wheel to Cade Murray and Blake Carroll’s blossoming relationship. Their ship name? Cake and Katie. It all started about five months ago after Blake added Katie to Cade’s Snapchat. 21st century love, am I right? On their favorite date, the trio went to see Passengers and then ate at T-Bell. Cake and Katie are planning their next date for Valentine’s Day to see 50 Shades Darker.
Delphi sure has some of the greatest love stories *cue T-Swizzle*. A big thank you goes out to all the pairs who shared their personal testaments that true love may actually exist outside of original Netflix series and frozen pizza.
