Rainey (Alting) Jones named girls’ varsity coach
Delphi Athletic Director Kevin Sims said in his opening statement at the May 12 press conference that he was looking for an “Oracle” to fill the head coaching void at varsity girls basketball. That’s exactly what the program got in Delphi legend, Rainey (Alting) Jones.
Jones takes over a very solid and experienced team that went 18-6 a year ago. All five starters, including Myka Roth (14.5 ppg) and Tatum Minier (12.8 ppg), return next season.
Jones is a 1996 graduate of Delphi. In her illustrious career at Delphi, Rainey piled up 1.984 points and helped lead the Oracles to sectional championships in 1995 and 1996. She led the state in scoring her senior season, averaging 30.7 points per game. Jones played collegiately for two years at Vincennes University before finishing her career at Indiana University.
