Delphi’s own community library proudly presents at least three productions per year. The most recent production in progress is Penny Penniworth: A Story of Great Good Fortune, a comedy by Chris Weikel.
This play, a mockery of Dickens’ work, takes place during the Victorian Era of England. It takes its audience everywhere from a bustling street to a manor all decked out in black, and from a dangerous cliff to a wedding chapel. It will enthrall the house with both its verbal and comedic comedy–leaving the audience fully satisfied.
This high-energy play is made up of only two actors and two actresses, whom all hold multiple roles within the production. Of this cast, three are current Delphi Community High School (DCHS) students–Daniel Martin, senior; Grace Hampton, senior; Brandon Jeffries, junior; and one DCHS alumnus Erika Matricia.
“The fact that we play so many and such diverse roles really adds to the comedic value of this play.,” said actress Grace Hampton, “It’s such an honor to even be apart of the show!”
Penny Penniworth: A Story of Great Good Fortune will be performed on April 12 at 6:30 and again on April 13 at 2:30 at the Delphi Community Methodist Church. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time and by April 10. The tickets can be found at the Delphi Public Library, Beyond My Garden Gate Tea Room, and at the Opera House Gallery of Contemporary Art. This production is being done as a fundraiser for the community theatre program, so the ticket price for adults is $15 and $7.50 for children 12 years of age and under. Tea and dessert will be served prior to the performance.
