Mr. Tylenda

  1. How long have you been teaching?

I have been a counselor for two years. This will be my third year and first year at Delphi.

  1. Do you have a spouse, children and or pets?

I live at home with a cat named Iggy. He acts more like a dog though.

I was a shy, awkward kid in high school. I did not talk to anyone other than close friends.

In my free time I typically like watching sports or movies. I am a huge Purdue basketball fan. I also enjoy the occasional run, cooking, and relaxing .

  1. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be pretty much everything as a kid (and still kinda do). My career interests as a kid ranged from an artist to an orthodontist to a chemist. Naturally, I went to college to be an accountant, and now I am a school counselor.

  1. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Spain is probably at the top of my list. I have a college minor in Spanish and would love to go experience Spanish culture.

  1. What is your favorite food?

I enjoy both Mexican and Asian cuisine

  1. What are 3 fun facts about yourself?
  1. I grew up playing lots of chess. I even went to state tournaments when I was a kid.
  2. I spent the last two years as a school counselor in Memphis, Tennessee.
  3. In college I spent time playing on Purdue’s Ultimate Frisbee team.

  1. What is some advice you would want to give to the students?

My best advice is to take 10 minutes a day to not think about anything. We spend so much time thinking that we never give our brain a break. Our brains need to rest and forget about school, or work, or Snapchat; even if just for a short period of time. Meditation can make a huge difference.
