Homecoming Recap
Homecoming week-one of the most hectic but fun and exciting weeks of the school year! This week is action-packed with many homecoming activities: the princess election, powderpuff football, and finally, to end the week, there’s the shopping cart parade, crowning of the Homecoming queen, and the football game on Friday night. On top of it all, it’s Spirit Week! There’s a lot going on, and here’s the recap of our fun-filled week.
Princess election: At the beginning of the week, we voted for our fellow peers to decide who would be the next homecoming (football) princess this year. Each grade voted and a new princess was announced. Although for the seniors, we chose four girls to vie for the queen’s crown on Friday. The results came out as follows:
Freshman: Kristina Powlen
Sophomore: Emma Clouse
Junior: Jordan Dowell
Seniors: Hayden Crawford, Mekenzie Gear, Caydence McClain, and Tory Welk
Powderpuff: On Wednesday night, a team of girls from each class competed in a game of powderpuff football. All of the classes played hard, but the junior class came out on top for the first time in quite a few years. The freshman class came in second with a win and a tie, the sophomore class was third with a loss and a tie, and the senior class placed last with two losses. Everyone had a great time.
Shopping Cart Parade: A fun new addition to Homecoming this year was a shopping cart parade/judging. Each class was responsible for decorating a shopping cart (donated by Wallmans) for halftime at the Homecoming game. The freshman class created a cart with a tree and a hammer that said “Smash” and a football with their graduating year. The sophomore class put fellow classmate, Madeline Hollingsworth, behind the wheel of the “Feedin’ Machine” train. The junior class turned whack-a-mole into whack-a-gopher since Delphi’s opponent for the night was the Clinton Prairie Gophers. Finally, the seniors continued their Superman theme and put their peer, Kolt Kinsler, in costume and in the cart. The sophomore class won, followed by the freshmen class, the senior class, and then the junior class.
Homecoming Crowning: On Friday night, the princesses boarded the homecoming float that rode along the track during halftime. The float was pulled by a tractor driven by Adam Humbarger and Randy Mays. All of our princesses looked beautiful next to their handsome escorts, but it was Miss Tory Welk who claimed the crown. Tory Welk was escorted by Cole Kesling. Congratulations to all of the princesses!
Football Game: The Delphi Oracles faced off against the Clinton Prairie Gophers on Friday night. The Oracles defeated the Gophers with a score of 54-26. Great job, Oracles!
Spirit Week: Spirit Week is the one week in the school year that students can dress crazy. This year, the DCHS student council did not let us down when it came to picking out the most interesting of days. This past week, we’ve had Classy day, Twin Tuesday, Hat day, TBT/Decade day, and Oracle pride Friday. Those students who participated demonstrated much spirit and ingenuity throughout the week.
Homecoming 2014 was a fun and busy week. A big thank you to the student council for making it possible!
