The seemingly gargantuan step up from middle school to high school can be a sometimes frightening trip for the average freshman. This move from the top of the totem pole back down to the base can be a trying time for them. Some find the different style in which high school works difficult, while for others it can turn out to be a stride made onto the road toward maturity.
Many came into the year anticipating a fast-paced learning environment, but as they soon found out, this was not necessarily the case. Freshmen Emilee Gear and Kain Myer both said that they had thought this to be true.
Freshman Jacob Clouser said he had, “anticipated not feeling like being stuck on a leash and being babied.” The upcoming freshmen are always so eager to get onto their own path that they sometimes overlook the importance of their teachers’ help and guidance, especially in these early years.
Coming into high school doesn’t have to be a nerve racking experience though. Freshman Kain Myer, when asked if he was worried about the upcoming year, said, “ I really wasn’t worried about anything before starting class. I was very relaxed and ready to start my high school career.”
As the days continue and the fears subside, the freshmen will naturally fall into a simple and comfortable routine.
