September 30th was quite the memorable day for our Delphi Oracle Soccer Team. In a shocking turn of events, the Delphi Soccer team gained another victory under their belt. Our opponents were the Rossville Hornets; with the game taking place at home here in Delphi.
It was Delphi Soccer’s Senior Night, where we honored our Senior players who have been faithfully playing on our soccer team. Before the game started, we had our Senior Walk-Out; with senior players accompanied by parents. They spoke about their favorite experiences playing in our team, and what they wished to do in their future. A brief, touching moment to celebrate the end of their high school soccer career, and the ending of our season before Sectionals.
As the first half commenced, as always, both teams started to fiercely compete for possession of the ball. Both teams were evenly matched; with the ball flying through the air onto both sides. A great back & forth with the ball ensued; with neither team being able to score. Although many shots were attempted onto the goal; our keeper, Reid Allread, was able to block most shots. As time ran out & the scoreboard went off; the ending score of the first half was 0-0.
With revitalized confidence, our team went back into the fray after a short break. As the second half began, our team displayed aggressiveness never previously seen before. Although Rossville scored a singular goal, Delphi struck back with five. Among Delphi’s many attempts; our team made five goals against Rossville. With freshman, Leo Hernandez, scoring two, freshman, Saul Medrano Colorado, scoring 1 off of a penalty kick, and sophomore, Damian Briseno, scoring two goals via. headers. An excellent display of skill from our underclassmen. All of the Delphi Soccer team played well, and should be credited for this victory. Our defensive line defended well, and kept on their marks, our midfield stayed together, and our offensive players were aggressive & won possession of the ball.
As the soccer season ends, we hope to retain our players for another year. We wish our seniors good luck in their endeavors, and hope that they stay safe. We hope that next year, our players will be ready to play again, and win some more matches for Delphi.
