On September 18, the Delphi Oracle Soccer Team finally ended its three year losing streak. Our opponents were the Caston Comets. With the game taking place in the Caston High School field; a fierce struggle for victory ensued. Both teams brutally competed for the possession of the ball; as if it was a game of tug of war. With our Oracles maintaining possession, then the Comets stealing the ball & maintaining possession, then vice versa. The Comets scored first on our goal, but then our Oracles struck back. With freshman, Saul Medrano Colorado scoring our first goal of the game.
As the first half of the game ended. The score was 1-1. Tensions in the field were rising, and the stakes were at an all time high, Both teams desperately fought to gain possession of the ball. Both teams attempted multiple shots on goal. Luckily, our goal keepers, Reid Allread & Jesus Flores Cruz, were able to block nearly every shot on goal. As both teams completed, our Oracles were finally able to break through their defense with a combination of aggressiveness & good teamwork. As the ball made its way up the field, freshman, Leo Hernandez, gracefully scored our second goal of the match. As the Caston Comets desperately attempted to break through the Oracle defense, and tie the game; their efforts were in vain as the time ran out. As Caston fans screamed in anguish; our Oracles celebrated their first win of the season. Coach Micah quoted that “Our players played well as a team. Our aggressive playstyle & good teamwork won us this game. Jesus & Reid should also be credited; as they saved & blocked many shots on our goal. It was just good soccer.”
