Austin Commits to Ripon

Year after year, Delphi has been consistent in sending a number of student athletes off to compete at the collegiate level. Marcus Austin, a member of Delphi’s graduating class of 2017, will maintain that trend with his recent commitment to Ripon College for tennis. Ripon is a small liberal arts institution located in Ripon, Wisconsin about an hour and a half north of Madison.

During his time in high school, Marcus was a four year member of the tennis team and three year member of the baseball team before giving up his senior season to focus on his commitment to Ripon. As a tennis player, Austin was mainly utilized as a doubles player and spent his senior year playing alongside his younger brother, Luke. He experienced success on and off the court as he competed for multiple Hoosier Conference and sectional championship titles. Austin also lettered all four years for the varsity squad. In his final season as an Oracle, Marcus finished with an impressive 15-2 regular season record and a first-round sectional win at number one doubles.

Why Ripon? “I chose it because of their prestigious academics.” Austin went on to say that passing up a chance to be a collegiate athlete was something he couldn’t do. “Playing tennis at the next level has always been a lifelong dream for me.” Besides tennis, Marcus plans to utilize Ripon’s science department. He wants to major in Biology with plans to pursue a career as a geneticist.
