Oracles begin 2016-2017 season

The Delphi boys’ basketball team took the court for the first time of the 2016-2017 season last Wednesday, Nov. 22 at Clinton Central. The Oracles, who struggled to produce the positive results they desired last year, couldn’t have started out the new season in a better manner. Delphi was led by junior Cade Murray as he racked up 14 points in the 62-49 rout of the Bulldogs. Offense also came from sophomore Blake Carroll with 13 points and the backcourt duo between seniors Weston Windell and Kain Myer who combined to add 19 to the Oracle score. However, offense was not the only factor that contributed to Delphi’s season opener victory. Head coach Brian McCammon’s stout defensive strategy caused multiple turnovers and mishaps for Clinton Central all night long.

Next up for the Oracles was the Beef House Classic tournament which was held at Covington High School. In the first game, Delphi struggled to find any offense as they went on to suffer a tough 51-20 defeat to Cascade. However, after a big meal at the famous Beef House and a little bit of rest, the Oracles responded to early adversity strongly. In a matchup against Brown County, Delphi obtained a 61-52 victory from a cast of Oracle scorers. Senior Dalton Briles led the charge with 14 points on 100% field goal attempt percentage. The Oracles also caught fire from behind the arc, shooting 8/15 from 3-point range.

Delphi looks to move to 3-1 on the season in their first home matchup against Faith Christian this Friday, Dec. 2, 2016. The Eagles got the best of Delphi in a close game last season, but the Oracles have obtained a new hunger this year and are ready to face any challenge presented.
