Fall sports review
Boys’ Tennis:
Led by seniors Elliott Atkinson, Josh Gillam, and Adam Shanks, with additional help from foreign exchange student Vladimir Danicic, the Oracle tennis team put together a great season. Delphi had three team members receive all-conference awards, and they also placed second in sectionals as a team. The boys’ tennis team finished with a regular season record of 10-2.
Football:
Under head coach Josh Strasser, the Delphi football team looked to put together another good season. Seniors Mason Lane, Tyler Ross, and sophomore QB Weston Windell led the offense with Windell throwing for over 2,000 yards this season. The Oracles succeeded in keeping the Bacon Bowl at Delphi and also advanced to the sectional semi-final where they fell to Central Catholic. Delphi finished with a record of 5-6.
Cross Country:
The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams geared up for another season of running with first year coach Jason Clark. Leading the boys this season was sophomore Blake Ragan and senior Noah Rider. The girls’ team was led by senior Mckenzie Gear. Unfortunately, neither the boys’ or girls’ team had enough runners to compete this season. The Oracles did have individual runners participate in sectionals but everyone fell in the first round.
Boys’ Soccer:
With 15 out of 17 returning players from last year’s team, the boys’ soccer team made a statement this year. Senior keeper Brayton Slifer and sophomore Daniel Jakes helped the Oracles capture the first sectional title in program history. The Oracles advanced to regionals where they lost 1-0 in the last minute of regulation play to Eastern. Coach Matt Bates led the Oracles to a 7-10-1 overall record.
Girls’ Soccer:
The girls’ soccer team, led by coach Adam Barnett, finished with an overall record of 2-9-4 this season. The Oracles were led by senior keeper Caydence McClain. Delphi’s offense was also greatly helped by all-conference nominee Rylee Lane and junior Danielle Swayze. The girls’ soccer team unfortunately lost in the first round of sectionals but are looking to bounce back even stronger next year.
Girls’ Golf:
The girls’ golf team, under first-year coach Dave Gilbert, kicked off another season of golf this fall. With no returning varsity players from last year’s team, the Oracles looked towards sophomore Krista Jones for guidance. Delphi, with only three team members, had to forfeit every regular season meet this year. In sectionals, the Oracles all competed at a great level individually but all lost in the first round.
Volleyball:
The Delphi volleyball team returned multiple varsity players from a year ago and looked to capitalize this season. Seniors Ashley Garcia, Charlie Holliday, and Bryanna Calloni, along with junior Morgan Crowel led the Oracles this season. Delphi ended up losing in the first round of sectionals this year. The Lady Oracles finished with an overall record of 4-26.
