The past few years the Delphi Community High School boys’ basketball team has been gifted with tremendous athletes, a lot of wins, and an unmatched student section to cheer them on.
The Oracles started off their 2012 season with victory after victory in the Indiana Kitchen Classic. Many local teams competed throughout the tournament week, hosted at Delphi’s home court, but when the cheering had quieted and the nets lay still, it was the Oracles who reigned victorious.
After their success during the Kitchen Classic and a solid victory against Benton Central, the boys travelled down to Indianapolis to face off against Frankfort in Conseco Fieldhouse. But the big city and back to back games had worn on them and Frankfort stole the win from the Oracles, 58-32
After the tough loss Delphi went on to get another complete victory against Clinton Prairie, 60-33
Facing off against the 3A Tipton Blue Devils the Oracles put up a great fight. Leading 30-22 at halftime the Oracles were looking confident and strong against the #2 seed in the state. However, during the third quarter Tipton went on a 21-0 run which proved difficult to recover from for the Oracles. With the score tied at 55 late in the fourth quarter, Tipton drove in and took the lead with 13.5 second left in the game and went on to win 57-55.
Over winter break the Oracles took on the Central Catholic Knights on Delphi’s home court. The Knights stood with a long winning streak over the Oracles, the last time Delphi having beaten them was 13 years ago. However, history would not repeat itself during this game as the Oracles took the lead and beat the Knights with a final score of 70-46.
The boys came off their Friday night victory over Central Catholic and beat Rossville 50-44.
The Oracles now stand with a 5-2 record. Delphi boys’ basketball head coach Mike Lewis said, “It is a real privilege to coach a great group of kids. They are working extremely hard to accomplish all of their individual and team goals.”
