In recent years, Delphi has been notorious for pumping out athletes that are capable of competing at the collegiate level, more specifically D-1. For those not familiar with the term D-1, it means Division 1, the highest level of athletics at the college level. This year, DCHS is proud to boast a 6’ 8” basketball player, Cole Murray.
Cole has proven to be the key to the Oracles’ success in recent years. Last year, the Oracles finished 14-7, and look to better that this year with a current record of 12-4. Delphi head coach Mike Lewis only had positive words about Murray, “Cole is a big time shooter with size. His ability to stretch the defense will be a huge asset at the next level.”
Murray’s teammates can also affirm that he is a great player and friend. “He can make big shots in tough games, and also be a great role model for the younger kids,” says junior Kolby Myer.
All of his success didn’t come without sacrifice, though. Cole wasn’t always the superstar that he is known as today. With his achievements came sacrifice, such as giving up baseball and football. Murray gave up football after Little Gridiron league to have more time for basketball. He continued to play baseball until his sophomore year after coaches convinced him that basketball was his calling.
Sports aren’t the only sacrifices Cole made to dominate the hardwood. He routinely wakes up early to get in time at the gym. “It’s for the love of the game,” says Murray. “You don’t just wake up one day and magically get good.”
Murray recently signed with Northern Kentucky University. He plans on majoring in communications.
