5 things Trump has done right

As all Americans know, or at least should know, Donald Trump is our 45th president. He campaigned on promises of stricter immigration, bringing jobs back to the U.S., lowering taxes, and repealing and replacing President Obama’s signature Affordable Care Act.

Though Trump has done a lot of positive things in his first nine months as president, here are five of the best things he has done so far.

  1. Reaction to North Korea

North Korea, formally the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, has grown increasing violent and dangerous. They have had multiple missile tests, they have “successfully” tested a hydrogen bomb, and, worst of all, they have threatened the U.S. and our allies. Former administrations have dealt with this predicament with monetary deals (Clinton), condemnation (Bush) and patience (Obama). So far, President Trump has returned threats back to North Korea, saying that if they fire a missile at the U.S. or our allies, the U.S. will return fire. This has led to a decrease in threats from North Korea.

Also, multiple rounds of sanctions have been passed under the Trump administration, targeting North Korea’s economy. This is constricting their economy, which means less money towards the missile program.

  1. Crackdown on Illegal Immigration

One of the biggest and most well known topics that Trump campaigned on was stricter immigration, and, more specifically, building a wall along the Mexican border. He also promised that Mexico would pay for it. Although the latter promise most likely won’t be fulfilled, legislation for the wall was passed back near the beginning of the presidency. It should be done in a few years, before the end of Trump’s first term.

The wall is projected to cost between $12 and $15 billion dollars. However, it will have economical benefits. The first one is it will create jobs. Obviously, someone has to build the wall. Also, it will keep illegal immigrants out, which will open up jobs that illegal immigrants usually do for below minimum wage. These minimum wage jobs are perfect for high school aged students, like most of you readers, that are just entering the workforce and need work experience. Second, it will lower the trafficking of illegal drugs. This will lower the supply of drugs in this country, which is good for marijuana businesses in states like Colorado and Washington, as sales will increase.

  1. Hurricane Relief

The Caribbean islands and the southern U.S. have been bogged with hurricane after hurricane recently, with Harvey flooding Houston, Irma hitting Florida, Jose looming out in the Atlantic, and Maria crashing through Puerto Rico. This has led to lots of destroyed buildings, deaths, displaced people, and, overall, heartbreak for millions of people. Also, hurricane season still lasts a little while longer. So, when Hurricane Harvey hit, Trump had a bill pushed through Congress allowing for billions of dollars in relief money to victims of the hurricanes. Also, he donated $1,000,000 of his own money to help the victims. As for longtime relief, Congress is expected to pass a bill for up to $200 billion sometime soon.

  1. Economic Surge

In President Trump’s first six months in office, roughly 1,074,000 jobs have been added in the U.S. This fulfilled his campaign promise that he was going to create jobs. Also, 1,074,000 added jobs is much better than President Obama’s first six months in office, where roughly 3,400,000 were lost in this country.

Also, between the election, Nov. 6, 2016, and the inauguration, Jan. 20, 2017, the U.S. market has gained $1.4 trillion in value. DOW has had lots of success too. It jumped 257 points the day after the election, and would gain 1400 by the end of the year. DOW also reached a record high of 22,331.35 on Sept. 18, 2017. This has been sparked by Americans’ boosted confidence in the economy with Trump’s economic agenda.

  1. Charlottesville Reaction

On Aug. 12, a group of protesters collected in Charlottesville, VA to protest the removal of a Civil War era statue. However, the protest turned violent when protesters started clashing with counter-protesters who were in favor of the statue’s removal. It eventually turned deadly when a protester from Ohio drove his car into a group of counter-protesters, killing one and injuring 19.

I liked President Trump’s response to the situation. He condemned both sides, which I agree with, as both sides were fighting throughout the day. However, he specifically condemned the neo-nazis, KKK members, and white supremacists, who were responsible for the killing of a counter-protester.

These are my five favorite things that Trump has done so far, and I think he will continue to do well throughout his presidency.
