Dr. Moore:
One of the most important new faces you’ll see this school year is the face of our new superintendent, Dr. Moore! Dr. Moore is originally from Lake County, IN and was born in Munster. She says she fell in love with school from a very young age. She loved her teachers growing up and the opportunities school provided. From elementary school she knew she wanted to go into education. When asked about her favorite teacher she said her fourth grade teacher was her favorite. One thing to know about Dr. Moore is that she is a die hard Purdue fan and tells people she “bleeds black and gold”. She has graduated from Purdue with four degrees! She said that she fell in love with the campus and that to her it felt like home. Her favorite thing about college was the opportunities her professors gave her. She says she feels like she has been in school her whole life, and has spent a total of ten years in college alone. But she still has so much love for it. She said “positively impacting student’s lives is her everything”. She is also a first generation college graduate.
She taught for nine years before going into administration. She taught kindergarten and fourth grade, she has then been in administration for twelve years. When asked about what brought her to Delphi she said she was already familiar with the school. During her time at Purdue she got assigned to Delphi as part of her course work for a class she was taking. She also has family nearby that she enjoys being close to. She said she feels very at home here at Delphi and feels that we are one big family. She enjoys working in a smaller district because she can be more hands on. She has many big goals for Delphi, like getting our community more involved and knowledgeable about the positive things going on in our school. She also wants to make sure everyone is given what they need to be successful. Some of her values are collaboration, transparency, and growth. She would like students to know that she came from a very hard working family and to not let all her degrees confuse and intimidate you. She asks that students look around and take advantage of the adults in their life that want to help guide them because that’s how she got to where she is. She has been married for 17 years and has two children, both attend Delphi. She loves her animals and local businesses. She loves to run, travel, go boating, and her favorite place she has ever been is a toss up between Maine and San Francisco. Her motto that she hopes to bring to Delphi is “keep going, keep growing.” Welcome to Delphi Dr. Moore!
Mr. Long:
Our new principal, Mr. Long, is an experienced and well educated administrator. His undergraduate studies took place at Marian University, where he also played baseball. Afterwards, he also received a Masters Degree from Indiana State University.
He started his teaching career as a substitute teacher and a baseball coach at Seeger High School. He then taught Physical Education and was an assistant basketball and baseball coach at Portage High School. Most recently, he taught Physical Education and Health as well as coaching baseball at Twin Lakes High School. Before he was the principal of our high school, he was an administrator in our middle school.
Mr. Long grew up in Burnettsville, Indiana, and now has a wife as well as a daughter and two step-children. He chose to come to Delphi when he wanted the opportunity to coach baseball with his brother, and an administrative position opened up in the middle school. In his free time, Mr. Long enjoys playing and watching sports, being outside, and spending time with his family and friends. He would like all of the DCHS students to know that he is an outside the box thinker, meaning that he is open to any suggestions and/or opinions that students may have.
Mr. Coffey:
Walking around Delphi this school year you see a lot of new faces and I’m not just talking about the freshman class. This year we have a handful of new staff members that are eager to get to know everyone and have a great school year. Not only do we have a lot of brand new teachers we also have a whole new administration team. One of the new faces you’ll see a lot of this year is our new assistant principal Mr. Coffey. Mr. Coffey is originally from Centerville, Indiana. Growing up his favorite subject in school was history, and knew from 6th grade he wanted to go into education. He graduated from Franklin with his four year degree then went to Indiana State to get his masters. While in college he enjoyed being an RA.
He has taught 7-12 grade social studies at Medora, Zionsville, and Crispus Attucks before going into administration. Before Delphi he was a Dean and Athletic Director at his old school. So far at Delphi he has enjoyed his time here getting to know students and staff. Most of the schools he has worked at before were bigger so he looks forward to being at a smaller school. One thing he hopes to bring to Delphi is consistency, making sure everyone feels equal, and getting to know the students. He is married and he and his wife have a cat and a dog. He loves the outdoors and loves to go hiking, camping, and backpacking. He goes on an annual backpacking trip every year with a couple of his friends. He hopes to go to Ireland at some point in the future. And one thing he wants students to know about him is that you can always trust him to be direct and honest with you. We are happy to welcome Mr. Coffey to Delphi!
