Rating “weird snacks” of the student body

When the clock strikes 3:15 and we all go our separate ways, that craving for the perfect after-school snack floods our minds. However, some snacks are not as typical as chicken nuggets, smoothies, or potato chips. As evidenced by some members of our student body, various snacks that would be deemed “weird” by others, are an all-time favorite among teens today.

  • Pasta and cottage cheese – 4/10

Freshman Abby Summers shared that she enjoys making the pasta from mac-n-cheese boxes and mixing it with cottage cheese. For me personally, I think the texture would be absolutely horrendous, but I’m interested in whether or not the cheese flavor would transfer over with cottage cheese. I mean, it is still cheese after all?

  • Korean “Honey Twist Snack” – 10/10

I am very intrigued to try this snack suggested by sophomore Ella Baker. Based on the reviews I read online, it tastes like a funnel cake. As someone who loves funnel cakes at the fair every year (sadly not this one, thanks COVID-19), I would love to try these! 10/10 for sure!

  • Tortillas (just plain) – 7/10

This one is certainly interesting, but I don’t have any room to talk because as a toddler, I ate ice cream cones without any ice cream in them. I really like the texture of tortillas, so I don’t think this one would be too out of character for me to eat. Caitlyn Snavely, you might be onto something with this snack.

  • Popcorn with ranch powder – 10/10

The reason why this snack is rated so high is because…it’s my own favorite snack! I tried it one day out of pure curiosity, but I will never go back to eating regular popcorn. Every time I mention this to someone, they immediately dismiss it and automatically think it would be gross. However, I think the balance of the butter from the popcorn and the salt from the ranch powder is the perfect combination of flavors.

I think it’s time we get rid of the judgement associated with enjoying weird snacks and embrace the fact that we all have wacky cravings from time to time. I even encourage you to try some of the snacks on this list. Those Korean honey twist snacks will definitely be making an appearance in our cupboard sometime soon.
