Important life lessons you need to remember

Life can be pretty hectic sometimes, so much that just the thought of crawling out of bed and brushing your teeth can seem like an impossible feat. I feel this way too often, especially as a soon-to-be graduate. With only twenty-some (senioritis lol) days left of school, I spend the majority of my time trying to forget that I have homework. When not doing that, I pinterest. While scrolling through Pinterest last night, I came across this list of small life lessons that everyone needs to remember, and thus, this article was born. So, when you feel overwhelmed and stressed beyond belief, stick to one of these life lessons that make everything feel okay.

  1. Life isn’t presented with a bow, but it’s still a gift.

You being on this earth is a gift, even though it doesn’t always feel like it. Even when you have a biology packet, two essays, a math worksheet, and endless scholarships to fill out, remember that every day you wake up is something worth celebrating.

  1. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick, your friends will. Stay in touch.

Many of us absolutely cannot wait to get away from 99% of the people we’ve spent the last 15 years of our lives with, but don’t ever forget about those close friends you made. They were there to hang with you on Friday night, they were your shoulder to cry on, they were there for your first breakup. They will always be a part of you.

  1. Life is too short for pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.

I know you hear it all the time, but life isn’t guaranteed. Everything you know and love could be gone tomorrow. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, and start being thankful that you’re alive.

  1. All that really matters in the end is that you loved.

People may not remember what you told them, but they will remember how you made them feel.

  1. Time heals almost everything. Give it time.

Life’s too short to be angry. Let things go, and find peace in all you do. Believe me, nothing in the world is worth wasting your energy being hateful.

  1. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait until old age to have purple hair.

Now’s the time to be yourself. Why wait?

  1. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

Laugh louder, tell dumb jokes, sing as loud as you want. No one is paying nearly as much attention as you think, and plus, if they are, look at it on the bright side: now you have an audience.

  1. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: “in five years, will this even matter?”

It’s easy to get caught up in the moment, and that can make small bumps in the road feel like boulders in your path. Just remember that 99% of the problems you face today won’t matter in a few years. Just keep moving forward.

  1. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d take ours back.

We have the problems we have because we are able to handle them. Everyone’s life journey is different; these are the bumps in the road that come with our travels.

  1. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and show up.

Don’t halt your life because you don’t feel like living it.
Life isn’t always nice. You don’t always feel like taking a nice stroll on a Sunday morning. Sometimes you just feel like staying in your pajamas all day, with the curtains pulled, not communicating with anyone face to face. However, no matter how down you feel, tomorrow is a new chance to start again. Don’t ever give that up.
