The small town gems of Delphi, Indiana
I have lived in the same county in the same city in the same house for a little more than eighteen years now. My life has been pretty stagnant thus far, but there is one thing I can claim from my small town knowledge: adventure is at every corner.
Never leaving a place for as long as I haven’t seems very stuck in the mud and boring. In which case you might be right, but one thing a small town like Delphi can provide is a sense of imagination and adventure. Just yesterday, I found a greater appreciation for the place I call home simply by going out and doing a little exploration. I challenge you to do the same.
Canal Park is one place that we can all recall visiting as kids, but we only loved the park for it’s free range to play tag back then. Just the other day, my appreciation for the beauty of the park really grew. At the time nothing was open, but my brother, cousin, and I made our own fun taking pictures around the park. It’s the littlest things in life that can easily bring you joy.
Andy’s Ice Cream Parlor and Coffee Shop is a new gem added to the collection around town. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out! The place is very eclectic in design with graffiti art on the side of the building and knick knacks posted around inside such as a wheelbarrow hanging from the ceiling top. The shop also features live music with a built-in stage in the back of the room. The old-fashioned Glover’s ice cream that they serve fits the scenery as well. Definitely a place you must stop in if you’re running through town.
The Garden Gate Tea House seems like a place dainty elderly ladies visit in their mundane retirement, but this little restaurant serves to a taste much more than that. The Parnassus crew recently visited there on a birthday bout and I think I can speak for everyone when I say that it was a trip that went unwasted. Everyone in our diverse group found something to appreciate on the menu. Everything is worth trying once.
Sandwich Shop is the epitome of our small town vibe. A compact diner with a wrap around bar is the perfect setting for sharing french fries with friends. A beloved little shop that we sometimes take for granted being so close to home. From milkshakes to soup to sandwiches, there’s an option for everyone!
Calico Plus is the perfect place to shop for handmade knick knacks to gift to grandma. It’s worth a walk through if you’re into looking at crafty decorations for the home. A Pinterest addict would love this place. Plus it always smells amazing.
There’s plenty of adventure just around the corner. You just have to go looking for it.
