TV shows to watch this season
The season of fall is associated with many things: pumpkins and apple cider, sweaters and bonfires, and the premieres of all of your favorite shows. With all of the different channels television now has, it seems almost impossible to know what show is on what channel at what time on what day. Here are some popular new and returning shows to keep your eye out for.
CBS:
The Big Bang Theory
A viewer favorite, this show follows roommates Leonard and Sheldon, physicists who work at the California Institute of Technology, and their two friends and colleagues, Howard and Raj. The four friends often get into hilarious situations involving science, Star Trek, and women. This show has been on since 2007, so before watching, you might want to binge watch a few seasons.
Survivor
Survivor is a long-running game show that has two seasons per year. The show sends a group of strangers (who later form two or more tribes) to a remote island where they must find food, fire, water, and shelter for themselves, and fight in challenges to either win a reward or immunity. One person is voted off every week.
Supergirl
This new show is premiering on Monday, Oct. 26. It is based off of the DC Comics character, Supergirl. She is a costumed superhero, the cousin of Superman and one of the last surviving Kryptonians, who is learning how to use her powers to fight for the good of humankind,
Scorpion
In the series, Walter O’Brien leads a team of brilliant misfits (a behaviorist, a mechanical prodigy, and a statistics guru) who make up Homeland Security’s new “think tank,” helping defend against the high-tech problems of the computer age. The team also helps single-mother Paige understand her genius son, Ralph. The show premiered last year and was a big hit.
ABC:
The Muppets
This new comedy, based on the lovable puppets many people grew up with, shows the everyday professional and personal lives of the muppets. It serves as a parody of other “mockumentary-style” series, such as Parks and Recreation and Modern Family. The show will often feature famous guest stars, such as Josh Groban and Liam Hemsworth.
The Goldbergs
Set in the 1980s, this show is based off of the life of producer, Adam Goldberg. Each episode is taken from a home video that Goldberg filmed as a boy. The show is hilarious, bouncing between the antics of his overprotective mother and his clueless older brother.
How to Get Away With Murder
This show premiered last year and was met with rave reviews. A law professor at a prestigious Philadelphia university who, with five of her students, becomes entwined in a murder plot.
Dancing with the Stars
Ballroom dancing, the tango, salsa, and many, many more dances are featured on this show where professional dancers pair up with famous stars to train and compete for bragging rights.
NBC:
The Voice
This show is mostly known for its infamous “blind auditions.” The four judges (Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, Pharrell, and Blake Shelton) don’t see the singers until they decide that they want that singer on their team. Singers compete for a record deal and $100,000.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Comedian Jimmy Fallon hosts the long-running late-night talk show. Fallon does many interesting things with celebrities, including Lip-Sync Battles, Wheel of Musical Impressions, and other fun challenges. It’s on Monday through Friday at 11:35 pm.
Heroes Reborn
The reboot of the popular show Heroes, Heroes Reborn premiered on Sept. 24. The show starts up five years after the ending of Heroes, and one year after the apparent bombing of Odessa, Texas during an “Evo” (evolved human) convention. The story follows several arcs of different people with different super abilities who will eventually have to come together to save the world.
The Blacklist
The Blacklist premiered in 2013. It follows the story of a former United States Navy officer turned high-profile criminal who voluntarily surrenders to the FBI. He tells the FBI that he has a list of the most dangerous criminals in the world and is willing to guide their operations in exchange for immunity from prosecution.
Fox:
Grandfathered
This new show starring John Stamos is the story of a bachelor who finds out that he’s got a kid… who’s also got a kid.
Masterchef Junior
Twenty-four children (between the ages of 8 and 13) compete against each other in a cooking competition. Two children are sent home every episode. The winner gets a prize of $100,000 and a Masterchef Junior trophy.
Gotham
Premiering in 2014, this show tells the story behind Commissioner James Gordon’s rise to prominence in Gotham City in the years before Batman’s arrival. It also tells the backstory of famous DC Comic villains, such as The Penguin, The Riddler, Catwoman, and The Joker
The Simpsons
In this long-running comedy, it shows the satiric adventures of a working-class family in everyday life.

Criminal Minds (CBS)
Since 2005, Criminal Minds has been creeping people out everywhere. An expert team of FBI profilers analyze the country’s most twisted criminal minds to anticipate their next moves.
Once Upon a Time (ABC)
If you’re a fan of fairy-tales, Once Upon a Time is the show for you. They revamp the famous Happily Ever Afters… with a twist. Once Upon a Time first premiered in 2011, but the first four seasons are on Netflix.
Blindspot (NBC)
A new drama on this season. A woman covered in tattoos who has no recollection of her memories wakes up naked in Times Square. Her tattoos lead the FBI into a large conspiracy of a crime and help her discover her identity.
New Girl (Fox)
After going through a rough break-up, Jess (Zooey Deschanel) moves in with three single guys. This comedy is great for anyone who wants a laugh.
