Prince William and Princess Kate expecting second child
Prince William and Princess Kate recently announced that they are expecting their second child. Reportedly, she is less than three months along but had to make a public announcement because she is struggling with the same acute morning sickness she had with Prince George, and could not attend an appearance in Oxford.
BBC News reports that this time, instead of being treated at a private hospital, Kate is being treated by doctors at Kensington Palace. Sources say that Kate is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, the same sickness she had during her first pregnancy. Hyperemesis Gravidarum is a complication of pregnancy recognized by unmanageable nausea, vomiting, and dehydration. It is estimated that it affects 3.5 per 1,000 pregnancies, and requires hydration, medication, and nutrients. Prince William said that she may be over the worst of it in “a few weeks’ time.”
When the palace first declared the pregnancy, they also said that the queen and both sides of the family were “delighted with the news.” Prince Charles made a statement that he hoped the baby was a girl. “It’s wonderful to be a grandfather again,” Charles said. “I’m looking forward to it—but I hope it will be a girl this time.” It is also reported that Prince Harry, the soon-to-be uncle, also hopes it is a girl.
Other news about the new little prince or princess is that they will be fourth in line to the throne, one place lower than Prince George but one higher than Prince Harry. The baby will have the title prince or princess in front of his or her Christian name because of a Letters Patent that the Queen issued about seven months before Prince George was born. The patent declares that “all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of prince or princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honor.” The Prince of Wales is Prince Charles and his eldest son is Prince William.
The new royal baby is due in April or May of 2015, but there is no official palace statement yet. The news of Kate Middleton’s pregnancy has gotten everyone in the United Kingdom excited, and as the baby countdown continues, everyone will have one question on their mind: is it a boy or a girl?
