Driving is a common practice in today’s society with almost everyone having a car and needing to accomplish a variety of tasks, such as going to work and buying food and supplies. Even teenagers feel like a car is a right of passage towards adulthood. Driving down the road with his or her soulmate next to them feeling the wind in their hair and watching the sunset in the distance – who would not want to experience that!
Yet, driving can bean inconvenience. That is my perspective on the matter and I would imagine many teens disagree. For me, sitting behind the wheel of a 500 pound piece of metal is terrifying. Let me explain…
When I am driving, I am afraid of pushing down on the acceleration pedal too much and losing control of the car. In the same instance, I also fear of going too slow and holding up traffic.
Another aspect of driving I always dread is parking correctly. I hope I can park inside the parking lanes without hitting another person’s car as well as pulling up close enough to the edge of the parking space so the back of my vehicle is not sticking out in the road (especially slanted parking spaces).
I also worry about damaging another person’s car and having to pay to have it fixed. You also have to take into account all the people around your car and make sure you do not injure them. The part of driving I hate most is having to pay attention to all the other drivers and taking into account their actions. It is bad enough worrying about my own actions let alone the actions of others.
So, in the end, driving is not all it is hyped up to be. Cherish your youth and the freedoms it comes with – there is plenty of time to learn how to drive.
