Coach Lang gets first victory
With sports, coaches come and go. It’s a part of the game. The girls’ volleyball team’s new coach, Kristine Lang, is hoping to change the go to stay as she enters her first year of her tenure here at Delphi.
Though she is not new to the Delphi area, she is glad to be here. “I am thrilled to be an Oracle! I worked at the elementary several years ago and fell in love with the schools and the town of Delphi then!”
With a handful of seniors, she is bound to have a comfortable stay as she comes in from North Newton, where she spent 15 years as the Spartans head coach. Over that time frame she accumulated over 200 wins, while winning a sectional title during her time with North Newton. What is astonishing is that during those 15 years, she only had three losing seasons, not an easy feat to accomplish with high schoolers and always having new players coming in and out of the system.
After posting her first career win for Delphi against the Tri-County Cavaliers on Sept. 8, athletic director Mr. Kevin Sims presented Coach Lang with the game ball. “It was really special to get that first win with my team! And then the game ball presentation was a very kind surprise. I have it up where it won’t be used or get dirty and will always remember the win and the “dabbing” with the students and team afterward!” said Lang.
In the end, though, Coach Lang looks to be here awhile. “I love it here, the people, the students, and the players,” Lang said. She looks forward to many more successful years in her stay at Delphi.
