They Went Left

They Went Left

They Went Left by Monica Hesse is a historical fiction novel taking place in Germany in 1945. The story follows the main character, Zofia, who still feels broken after the war. Her last words to her brother were a promise to find him, and now she must follow through on that. However, the deeper Zofia digs, the more impossible her search seems. There are so many people missing. How can she find her brother? Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I thought it took an interesting path focusing on post-WWII instead of during it like many YA historical fiction novels do. (4.26/5 stars on Goodreads)
