The Lucky Ones

The Lucky Ones by Liz Lawson is another one of this year’s Eliott Rosewater nominees. The novel follows  the perspectives of two main characters: May and Zach. May is a survivor, even if she doesn’t feel like one. Instead she feels lost, alone, and a little angry even though it’s been almost a year since her twin brother was killed in a school shooting. Zach just wants to disappear after his mother decided to defend the shooter. His friends, however, won’t let him. This led him to a band audition, which is where he met May. It’s only a matter of time before May finds out who his mom is and hates him too. Overall, I enjoyed this book. By no means was it one of my favorites or one I would want to reread, but the perspective was really interesting. (3.99/5 stars on Goodreads)
