Lifeguarding class begins annual elementary swim lessons

The lifeguarding class has started teaching swimming lessons to 3rd – 5th grade elementary students. During the lessons, groups of 2-7 students are split up into ability groups and assigned an instructor. The lifeguarding students learn how to teach swimming lessons and rotate turns as the lifeguard in the chair where they practice total coverage, watching the whole pool, and being on the lookout for anyone in need of help. The elementary students learn how to float and how to perform a variety of swimming strokes. Each class has two weeks of instruction.
