Clap When You Land

Clap When You Land

Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo follows the two main characters, sisters Camino Rois who lives in the Dominican Republic and Yaharira Rois who lives in New York City. Neither of them know the other exists. The story is told in verse and is about how the two girls cope with the loss of their Papi who died in a plane crash. As the story goes on you learn, along with the girls, the secrets Papi had been keeping. As their worlds fall apart, they learn about each other’s existence and ultimately come to know one another. Personally, I had high expectations for this book given prior books Acevedo has written. And while I did enjoy the book, I didn’t love it. (4.27/5 stars on Goodreads)
