Cube Escape: Paradox

This week, we’re taking a break from our usual programming (or any programming at all) with an app review! If you know me at all, I’m not that big into any sort of computer/console/phone games. After scouring the app store, I finally found a game that seemed interesting to me, named Cube Escape: Paradox made by parent company, Rusty Lake. Part of a 15-game series, Cube Escape: Paradox has over five million downloads on the Google Play Store and a 4.9/5 rating on the Apple App Store. If you couldn’t tell by the name, Cube Escape is basically a virtual escape room. The whole plot to the story is laid out in the games in this order:

1. Cube Escape: Seasons

2. Cube Escape: The Lake

3. Cube Escape: Arles

4. Cube Escape: Harvey’s Box

5. Cube Escape: Case 23

6. Cube Escape: The Mill

7. Rusty Lake: Hotel ($)*

8. Cube Escape: Birthday

9. Cube Escape: Theatre

10. Rusty Lake: Roots ($)

11. Cube Escape: The Cave

12. Rusty Lake: Paradise ($)

13. Cube Escape: Paradox

14. The White Door ($)

15. Samsara Room

*($) denotes what games aren’t free

Sadly, not all of the games are free. Although I played one game out of the order, the game was still easy to understand. Each game has its own plot and they connect as a whole when playing the complete series. The Rusty Lake games are unique too: although it’s a video game, it’s also a film crossover experience. The team at Rusty Lake wanted to do something never done before and to do that, they recreated the room you’re trying to escape from in the game in real life. Then, they filmed several characters in the room from the same perspective you have while playing the app. This way, the game is more immersive and so cool! There is some amazing music, sharp voiceovers from the characters, and even some jump scares! But, be warned: it’s very challenging! The puzzles and riddles are quite hard to decipher, but they’re relatively easy to actually complete.

The combination of horror, jump scares, challenges, voiceovers, and film make this game unique and fun. Well done, Rusty Lake!

P.S. There is a walkthrough of the game if you get super-duper stuck . . . But don’t cheat if you downloaded the game just to have an arduous app on your phone!
