The Silence Between Us

The Silence Between Us

The Silence Between Us by Alison Gervais is another one of this years’ Rosie nominees. The story follows our main character, Maya, a deaf teenager who moves across the country and has to attend a hearing school for the first time. Switching schools is hard enough, but now she has to adjust to the hearing culture on top of everything else. As Maya goes through school she starts getting questions that make her question her deaf identity. But she stands tall and never looks at her deafness as a disadvantage. I really liked this book. It is a great eye opener to the differences in our culture and causes awareness of the deaf community. (3.88/5 stars on Goodreads)
